Die K\u00f6niglichen Saint-Hubert-Galerien (Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert<\/em>) sind eine glas\u00fcberdachte Einkaufspassage im Zentrum Br\u00fcssels, nur wenige Schritte vom Grand-Place entfernt. Sie wurden am 20. Juni 1847 von K\u00f6nig Leopold I. er\u00f6ffnet und geh\u00f6ren zu den \u00e4ltesten \u00fcberdachten Einkaufspassagen Europas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The galleries were designed by the Dutch-born architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar. The 213-metre passage is divided into three sections, the King\u2019s Gallery, the Queen\u2019s Gallery and the shorter Princes\u2019 Gallery, under an arched glass roof on a delicate cast-iron frame. The palace-like fa\u00e7ades carry the motto Omnibus omnia, \u201ceverything for everyone\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the start the galleries combined shops, caf\u00e9s and culture. Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, Charles Baudelaire and Paul Verlaine frequented their caf\u00e9s, and on 1 March 1896 the first public film screening in Belgium, with the Lumi\u00e8re cinematograph, took place here. The Royal Theatre of the Galleries opened in 1847 and the Cin\u00e9ma Galeries in 1939, and the Neuhaus shop in the Queen\u2019s Gallery is known as the birthplace of the praline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today the galleries are a protected monument and on Belgium\u2019s tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage. Entry is free, and the covered passage near the Grand-Place is lined with chocolatiers, bookshops, jewellers and caf\u00e9s, making it a pleasant walk in any weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
