It was first held in 1975, when Venetian rowers set out to protest against motorboats and the wave damage they cause to the historic city. Any human-powered boat can take part, from gondolas and other Venetian craft to kayaks, canoes and dragon boats, and the event attracts thousands of participants from Italy and abroad; 2026 saw its 50th edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La regata no es una carrera; no hay ganadores ni premios. Es, en cambio, una celebraci\u00f3n del esfuerzo f\u00edsico, el trabajo en equipo y la tradici\u00f3n cultural. Los participantes reman a lo largo de un recorrido panor\u00e1mico por Venecia y las islas circundantes, acompa\u00f1ados por multitudes que los animan a lo largo de los canales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00bfCu\u00e1ndo y d\u00f3nde tiene lugar?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Vogalonga is held every year on Pentecost Sunday, so the date falls between mid-May and mid-June; in 2027 it takes place on 16 May. The boats set off at 9 a.m. from St. Mark\u2019s Basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El evento se desarrolla \u00edntegramente dentro de Venecia y su laguna, siguiendo una ruta preestablecida que destaca algunos de los canales y comunidades isle\u00f1as m\u00e1s emblem\u00e1ticos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La ruta cubre aproximadamente 30 kil\u00f3metros, comenzando y terminando en el coraz\u00f3n de Venecia:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start at St. Mark\u2019s Basin (Bacino San Marco)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Past the islands of Vignole and Sant\u2019Erasmo in the northern lagoon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burano, conocida por sus casas coloridas y sus tradiciones de encaje.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mazzorbo, una isla m\u00e1s tranquila, bordeada de vi\u00f1edos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Murano, famosa por la fabricaci\u00f3n de vidrio<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regreso por el canal de Cannaregio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final stretch follows the Grand Canal under the Rialto Bridge to the finish at Punta della Dogana, opposite St. Mark\u2019s Basin. Every participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal and a certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Participar y mirar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rowers must register in advance on the official website; in 2026 the fee was \u20ac30 per person on board, and places ran out well before the event. Watching is free: good spots are the Riva degli Schiavoni at the start, the banks of the Cannaregio Canal and the bridges over the Grand Canal.
