The Old City of Nesebar is one of the most picturesque and historically rich places on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. It lies on a small rocky peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway and is often called the \u201cPearl of the Black Sea\u201d. The ancient city has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983 for its exceptional architectural and archaeological heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoy los visitantes encuentran una mezcla \u00fanica de ruinas antiguas, iglesias medievales y casas de madera del Renacimiento Nacional B\u00falgaro, todo ello en una zona compacta que se recorre f\u00e1cilmente a pie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u00f3mo llegar al casco antiguo de Nesebar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Es f\u00e1cil llegar al casco antiguo de Nesebar desde el aeropuerto de Burgas (Sarafovo), a unos 25 km, y desde la ciudad de Burgas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Burgas Airport the most convenient option is a taxi, which takes about 25\u201330 minutes and costs roughly \u20ac25\u201335; agree the price before you set off. The cheaper way is public transport: city bus \u211615 runs from the airport to the South Bus Station in Burgas (\u20ac0.80), where you change to an intercity bus towards Nesebar and Sunny Beach. The whole trip takes about 60\u201380 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Burgas, buses to Sunny Beach leave the South Bus Station, next to the railway station, frequently in summer and stop in Nesebar; the journey takes 40\u201350 minutes. From Sunny Beach, local bus \u21161 runs to the Old Town every 10\u201320 minutes from early morning until midnight (about \u20ac1, 15 minutes). Buses stop near the entrance to the peninsula, a 5\u201310 minute walk from the Old Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In summer small excursion boats sail between the harbours of Sunny Beach and Nesebar about every half hour; a ticket costs around \u20ac10. Visitors\u2019 cars are not allowed into the Old Town, so drivers leave them in the paid car parks at the entrance to the peninsula (about \u20ac1.50 per hour or \u20ac7.50 per day).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qu\u00e9 ver y experimentar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Uno de los grandes atractivos de Nesebar es su notable concentraci\u00f3n de iglesias hist\u00f3ricas, las m\u00e1s antiguas del siglo V. Muchas se conservan en ruinas, como la antigua iglesia metropolitana de Santa Sof\u00eda, en el centro, mientras que otras, entre ellas San Esteban con sus frescos y la iglesia de San Juan Bautista, est\u00e1n abiertas como museos. En las estrechas calles empedradas hay casas de madera de los siglos XVIII y XIX, peque\u00f1as galer\u00edas y tiendas de artesan\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coastline around the peninsula offers beautiful sea views, especially at sunset, while the old wooden windmill on the causeway is a popular photo spot. Caf\u00e9s and restaurants serve traditional Bulgarian cuisine, often on terraces overlooking the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walking around the Old Town is free. Tickets are needed only for the sites of the Ancient Nessebar Museum. In 2026 the Archaeological Museum and the Church of St Stephen cost about \u20ac4.60 each, the Ethnographic Museum about \u20ac3, and the smaller churches and the windmill about \u20ac2.50 each; a combined ticket for all seven sites costs about \u20ac18. In high season, from early June to mid-September, the Archaeological Museum and St Stephen are open from 9:00 to 19:00, and the smaller sites from 10:30 to 19:00 with a short midday break. Out of season only the two main sites stay open, until 17:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
