Walk along the Cais da Ribeira, the riverside promenade, and enjoy the view of the colourful houses, the Dom Luís I Bridge and the port wine cellars on the other side of the river. On the water you can see the rabelos, traditional wooden boats that once carried barrels of port wine down the river. Many boats offer short cruises under Porto’s six bridges. Behind the waterfront, small streets and steps lead up into the old town. The Praça da Ribeira, a small square by the river, is full of cafés and restaurants, and the area is very lively in the evening.

Cómo llegar e información práctica

Ribeira is in the centre of Porto, a downhill walk of about 10 minutes from São Bento station. The streets are steep, so it is easier to walk down and take public transport or the Guindais funicular back up. Visiting the district is free. River cruises have a fee and leave from the waterfront. Restaurants on the riverside can be more expensive than those in the side streets. The area is busy in summer and at weekends, and it is most beautiful at sunset.

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex
