Dominating the skyline with its four imposing towers, it has served as a military stronghold, royal residence, and symbol of Spanish resilience throughout history. Today, it houses the Army Museum and the Library of Castilla-La Mancha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Histoire<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site of the Alc\u00e1zar has been fortified since Roman times, serving as a strategic lookout over the Tagus River and the surrounding plains. The current structure was built during the reign of Emperor Charles V in the 16th century, designed in Renaissance style by architects such as Alonso de Covarrubias and Juan de Herrera. It replaced earlier Moorish and medieval fortifications and became a royal residence and administrative center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019\u00e9difice a br\u00fbl\u00e9 plusieurs fois au fil des si\u00e8cles et a \u00e9t\u00e9 presque enti\u00e8rement d\u00e9truit lors du si\u00e8ge de 70 jours de 1936, au d\u00e9but de la guerre civile espagnole. Reconstruit apr\u00e8s la guerre, il accueille depuis 2010 le mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Arm\u00e9e, transf\u00e9r\u00e9 de Madrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Architecture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Alc\u00e1zar of Toledo is a massive rectangular building with four square towers, each crowned with steep slate spires. Its architectural style reflects a blend of Renaissance and classical influences, with symmetrical facades and decorative stonework. The Army Museum covers Spanish military history from the Middle Ages to today, and the excavated remains of earlier fortifications can be seen inside the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Horaires :<\/strong><br>Le mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Arm\u00e9e est ouvert du mardi au dimanche, de 10 h \u00e0 17 h, dernier acc\u00e8s \u00e0 16 h 30. Entry is free on Wednesdays, for visitors under 18 and for pensioners, and on several national days such as 12 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comment s\u2019y rendre<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A pied :<\/strong><br>The Alc\u00e1zar is located in the historic center of Toledo, near Plaza de Zocodover. It can be reached on foot through the city\u2019s narrow cobblestone streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>En voiture :<\/strong><br>Les visiteurs arrivant en voiture peuvent se garer dans l'un des parkings situ\u00e9s \u00e0 proximit\u00e9, \u00e0 l'ext\u00e9rieur de la vieille ville, et marcher jusqu'\u00e0 la forteresse. Il n'est pas recommand\u00e9 de conduire directement jusqu'\u00e0 l'entr\u00e9e en raison du manque de place et de l'\u00e9troitesse des routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>En train :<\/strong><br>From Madrid, Toledo is about 30 minutes away by high-speed train (AVE).
