It was first held in 1975, when Venetian rowers set out to protest against motorboats and the wave damage they cause to the historic city. Any human-powered boat can take part, from gondolas and other Venetian craft to kayaks, canoes and dragon boats, and the event attracts thousands of participants from Italy and abroad; 2026 saw its 50th edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La regata non \u00e8 una gara; non ci sono vincitori n\u00e9 premi. \u00c8 piuttosto una celebrazione dello sforzo fisico, del lavoro di squadra e della tradizione culturale. I partecipanti percorrono in canoa un lungo e suggestivo tragitto tra Venezia e le isole circostanti, accompagnati da una folla festante lungo i canali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quando e dove si svolge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Vogalonga is held every year on Pentecost Sunday, so the date falls between mid-May and mid-June; in 2027 it takes place on 16 May. The boats set off at 9 a.m. from St. Mark\u2019s Basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L&#039;evento si svolge interamente all&#039;interno di Venezia e della sua laguna, seguendo un percorso prestabilito che mette in risalto alcuni dei canali e delle isole pi\u00f9 iconiche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il percorso si estende per circa 30 chilometri, con partenza e arrivo nel cuore di Venezia:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start at St. Mark\u2019s Basin (Bacino San Marco)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Past the islands of Vignole and Sant\u2019Erasmo in the northern lagoon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burano, nota per le sue case colorate e le tradizioni legate al merletto.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mazzorbo, un&#039;isola pi\u00f9 tranquilla, costellata di vigneti.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Murano, famosa per la lavorazione del vetro<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ritorno attraverso il Canale di Cannaregio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final stretch follows the Grand Canal under the Rialto Bridge to the finish at Punta della Dogana, opposite St. Mark\u2019s Basin. Every participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal and a certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Partecipare e assistere<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rowers must register in advance on the official website; in 2026 the fee was \u20ac30 per person on board, and places ran out well before the event. Watching is free: good spots are the Riva degli Schiavoni at the start, the banks of the Cannaregio Canal and the bridges over the Grand Canal.
