Dolmabah\u00e7e Palace (Turkish: Dolmabah\u00e7e Saray\u0131) is a 19th-century palace located on the European shore of the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul, Turkey. Constructed for the Ottoman sultans, it is one of the most significant examples of European-influenced architecture in the Ottoman Empire and serves today as both a museum and a historical site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La storia<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The palace was commissioned by Sultan Abdulmecid I and constructed between 1843 and 1856, replacing the older Topkapi Palace as the primary residence of the Ottoman sultans. Reflecting the growing European influence within the Ottoman Empire, the design combines elements of Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles. The interior is notable for its lavish use of gold and crystal; approximately 14 tons of gold were used for decoration, and the main chandelier, weighing five tons and made of Bohemian crystal, was a gift from Queen Victoria. Renowned artists of the period, including Ivan Aivazovsky, contributed paintings and murals for the palace interiors. The palace was also used by Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. In 1984, Dolmabah\u00e7e Palace was officially opened as a museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The palace is easily accessible from the historical Sultanahmet district by the T1 high-speed tram line, with the nearest stop at Kabata\u015f.
