It commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, a key event of the French Revolution, as well as the F\u00eate de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration of 14 July 1790, which celebrated the unity of the French nation; it became the official national holiday in 1880. Starting from the Arc de Triomphe, it moves down the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es to Place de la Concorde, where the President of France watches with the government and invited foreign guests. Units of the French armed forces march on foot and in vehicles, followed by helicopters and military aircraft.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u0410\u0432\u0456\u0430\u043f\u0440\u043e\u043b\u0456\u0442<\/strong> &#8211; As part of the parade, the French Air and Space Force performs a flyover, opened by the Patrouille de France jets trailing smoke in the colors of the French flag.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Firefighters\u2019 Balls (Bals des Pompiers)<\/strong> &#8211; On the evenings of 13 and 14 July, fire stations across Paris open their doors for lively public dances. Entry is usually free, with a donation to the firefighters\u2019 charity welcome. The balls, held in station courtyards, are a local tradition and extremely popular with both residents and visitors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u041a\u043e\u043d\u0446\u0435\u0440\u0442 \u0456 \u0444\u0435\u0454\u0440\u0432\u0435\u0440\u043a \u0431\u0456\u043b\u044f \u0415\u0439\u0444\u0435\u043b\u0435\u0432\u043e\u0457 \u0432\u0435\u0436\u0456<\/strong> &#8211; The celebrations culminate in the evening with the free Concert de Paris, a large classical music concert on the Champ de Mars, followed at about 11 PM by a fireworks display launched from the Eiffel Tower and the Trocad\u00e9ro. For a good view of the parade, arrive on the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es by 8 AM. The Champ de Mars is reached through security checkpoints and closes when full, so come in the afternoon, or watch the fireworks from the bridges and quays of the Seine or from viewpoints such as Montmartre. Several metro stations near the parade route and the Eiffel Tower are closed for part of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped
