The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (German: Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ged\u00e4chtniskirche) is a Protestant church located on Breitscheidplatz in Berlin, Germany. Severely damaged during World War II bombing, the church was never fully restored and now serves as a memorial to the destruction and hardships of the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The church\u2019s remnants are commonly referred to as the \u201cHollow Tooth\u201d due to the empty tower interior. The memorial is also known as the Gedenkeskirche or \u201cBlue Church,\u201d owing to the blue light that illuminates the interior through hexagonal windows. Despite its damaged state, the church retains a functioning bell and an altar featuring a 4.6-meter-high figure of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breitscheidplatz, where the church is situated, is a cultural and commercial hub. The nearby Europa Center, built in the 1960s as Berlin\u2019s first American-style shopping and office complex, and the ruins of the church became symbols of West Berlin. The square hosts festivals, fairs, and public events, and it serves as the starting point for Kurf\u00fcrstendamm, one of the city\u2019s main shopping streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
