Overlooking the historic center, the castle dominates the city\u2019s skyline and is visible from both sides of the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u0406\u0441\u0442\u043e\u0440\u0456\u044f<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>\u0414\u043e\u0456\u0441\u0442\u043e\u0440\u0438\u0447\u043d\u0456 \u0447\u0430\u0441\u0438<\/strong> \u2014 The hill has been settled since the Stone Age. In the 1st century BC it was the site of a Celtic oppidum, and later, during the Roman Empire, it was part of the frontier defences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>10 \u0441\u0442\u043e\u043b\u0456\u0442\u0442\u044f<\/strong> \u2014 A stone castle was built on the hill as a border fortress of the Kingdom of Hungary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>15 \u0441\u0442\u043e\u043b\u0456\u0442\u0442\u044f<\/strong> \u2014 King Sigismund of Luxembourg rebuilt the castle as a Gothic fortress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>16th\u201317th centuries<\/strong> \u2014 While Buda was under Ottoman rule, Bratislava (Pressburg) served as the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary from 1536. The castle was rebuilt as a Renaissance and later Baroque residence with a rectangular layout and four corner towers, and it housed the Hungarian crown jewels; the kings themselves were crowned in nearby St. Martin\u2019s Cathedral.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>18 \u0441\u0442\u043e\u043b\u0456\u0442\u0442\u044f<\/strong> \u2014 The castle was expanded, including the construction of the Teresianum palace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1811<\/strong> \u2014 A devastating fire destroyed the complex, leaving it in ruins for over 140 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1953\u20131968<\/strong> \u2014 The castle was rebuilt in its late 18th-century form. The fortifications, however, remain much older.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u0421\u044c\u043e\u0433\u043e\u0434\u043d\u0456<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bratislava Castle houses the National Museum of Slovakia, with collections of historical artifacts, coins, and Slovak heritage. While the museum itself is modest compared to Vienna\u2019s grand institutions, the castle\u2019s architecture and panoramic views are the main draw for visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u0412\u0456\u0434\u0432\u0456\u0434\u0443\u0432\u0430\u043d\u043d\u044f \u0437\u0430\u043c\u043a\u0443<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>\u042f\u043a \u0434\u0456\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0442\u0438\u0441\u044f<\/strong>: Walk from the Old Town via \u017dupn\u00e9 Square, then continue along Kapuc\u00ednska and Z\u00e1mock\u00e1 streets.
