利马索尔阿吉奥·安德鲁街

Agiou Andreou Street is one of the oldest commercial streets in Limassol. During the British rule in the early 20th century, it was the city’s main business street. Today, its role has diminished compared to Anexartisias Street and other modern centers, but Agiou Andreou still preserves many beautiful historical buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, making it a fascinating place for visitors.

The street begins near Limassol Castle and runs parallel to the seafront through the Old Town, where you’ll also find the Ayia Napa Cathedral. From there, it moves away from the coastline, stretching towards the Limassol Municipal Park.

Agiou Andreou Street is not very wide and is open to traffic, but its charm lies in the architecture. The section near the Old Town and the part leading toward the Municipal Park are the most interesting for a walk. Beyond the Limassol Public Library, the street becomes less attractive.

Along the way, you can spot former mansions, hotels, and shops from Limassol’s golden era. A highlight is the yellow corner house opposite Ayia Napa Cathedral, a striking building from the early 20th century.

Further along stands the Office of the Limassol Diocese, followed by the impressive Limassol Public Library. Housed in the former palace of local businessman Antonis Pilavakis, this is one of the city’s most elegant landmarks. The original design was created by the French architect Edouard Niermans (famous for the Moulin Rouge in Paris) and later adapted by Greek architect Zacharias Vondas, who also designed the Yellow House and the Limassol Municipal Market.

The library building resembles a European opera house more than traditional Cypriot architecture, with grand arches, columns, and ornate details. Surrounding it is a small park with a fountain, offering a quiet spot to rest while exploring the city.

Tip for visitors: If you enjoy history and architecture, take a stroll from Limassol Castle through the Old Town and along Agiou Andreou Street until the Public Library. This walk gives you a good glimpse into the city’s past and its unique architectural influences.
