Spiaggia Grande is the principal beach of Positano, a town located on the Amalfi Coast in the Campania region of southern Italy. Situated at the foot of Positano’s steep hillside and directly below the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the beach forms the town’s central waterfront and serves as its main point of maritime access. Owing to its location and panoramic setting, Spiaggia Grande is considered one of the most recognizable beaches in Italy.

The Positano beach stretches along a relatively wide arc at the base of the town and is composed mainly of dark volcanic sand mixed with fine pebbles. The seabed slopes gradually, and the water is typically clear, with colors ranging from turquoise to deep blue depending on light and weather conditions. During the main bathing season, which extends from late May to early October, average sea temperatures range between approximately 22 °C and 26 °C in mid-summer.

Spiaggia Grande consists of both public and private sections. A central public area (spiaggia libera) is freely accessible without an entrance fee. Surrounding it are private concessions that operate seasonal beach clubs, where visitors may rent sun loungers and umbrellas for a fee. These establishments often include restaurant and bar services directly on the beach.

The beach is equipped with showers, boat rental services, and access points for water taxis and excursion boats, which connect Positano to other destinations along the Amalfi Coast. Due to its central location, visitors have immediate access to cafés, boutiques, and hotels in the town above. Spiaggia Grande functions not only as a recreational area but also as an integral part of Positano’s urban and cultural landscape, linking the town’s maritime traditions with contemporary tourism.
