Spiaggia di Tropea is the principal beach of the town of Tropea, located on the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria in southern Italy. Situated below the historic center, which rises dramatically on a cliff above the sea, the beach is widely regarded as one of the most notable coastal landscapes in the region. The rocky promontory crowned by the Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’Isola forms a distinctive landmark separating different sections of the shoreline.

The beach extends along a broad strip at the base of limestone cliffs and is characterized primarily by light-colored sand mixed with fine gravel. In contrast to many pebble beaches found elsewhere in Italy, Spiaggia di Tropea is known for its relatively soft surface and bright, almost white appearance. The seabed slopes gradually, and the water is typically clear, with shades of turquoise and deep blue. During the main bathing season, which generally lasts from June to September, average sea temperatures range between approximately 23 °C and 26 °C.

Spiaggia di Tropea includes both public and private areas. Large sections of the beach are freely accessible without an entrance fee (spiaggia libera). In addition, several private lidos operate seasonal concessions, offering paid services such as sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, and beachside refreshments. Lifeguard supervision is commonly provided during peak summer months.

Access to the beach from the historic center is provided by stairways descending from the cliff-top town. The waterfront area includes restaurants, small kiosks, and boat excursion services connecting Tropea to nearby coastal sites and the Aeolian Islands. Owing to its combination of geological features, clear waters, and urban proximity, Spiaggia di Tropea constitutes a central element of the town’s identity as a seaside resort destination in Calabria.
