Møns Klint is located on the eastern coast of the island of Møn in southeastern Denmark, around 140 kilometres from Copenhagen. Because Møn has no railway station, reaching the cliffs takes some planning. By car, it is roughly a two-hour drive south via the E47/E55 motorway, taking exit 41 and following signs to Møns Klint; this is by far the most flexible option. Without a car, the journey involves a train from Copenhagen to Vordingborg, then buses toward Stege and onward to the GeoCenter (bus 678 runs seasonally in summer, while bus 667 runs year-round to Magleby, about 5.5 km from the cliffs). Many visitors find an organised day tour from Copenhagen the most convenient way to go.

What Makes Møns Klint Famous

The cliffs rise up to 128 metres above the Baltic Sea, their brilliant white chalk faces formed from the compressed shells of microscopic sea creatures laid down some 70 million years ago. This makes them roughly three times taller than Denmark’s other famous chalk coast at Stevns Klint and one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the country. The chalk is rich in fossils, and guided fossil hunts on the beach let visitors search for prehistoric remains from the Cretaceous period. The surrounding Klinteskov forest is laced with marked hiking trails, and the area’s exceptionally dark skies have earned it recognition as a designated Dark Sky Park, making it superb for stargazing.

Tickets, the GeoCenter, and Practical Information

Walking along the cliffs, through the forest, and down to the beach is completely free. The 497-step staircase down to the pebble beach is the most physically demanding part of a visit and requires a reasonable level of fitness. The on-site GeoCenter Møns Klint, an interactive geology museum with a 3D cinema and exhibitions, charges 155 DKK for adults and 100 DKK for children aged 3–11, with under-3s free and a 10 DKK discount for booking online. Parking at the GeoCenter costs 45 DKK per day, paid by card at the machine. The GeoCenter is open from Easter to the end of October and closes in winter, although the cliffs themselves remain accessible year-round.
