Historical Note
In the mid-16th century, approximately 100 years after the palace’s construction, the Vasari Corridor was built. This covered passage connected Palazzo Pitti with the Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Vecchio, passing above the Ponte Vecchio. It allowed the Medici family to move safely between their residences and the government palace.
