The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the historic center of Brussels, Belgium. Dedicated to the city\u2019s patron saints, it stands on Treurenberg Hill and overlooks the surrounding urban landscape. Its prominent position and monumental scale make it a defining feature of Brussels\u2019 skyline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Construction of the cathedral began in the 13th century on the site of an earlier Romanesque church and continued over several centuries. As a result, the building reflects the evolution of Gothic architecture in the region, with an emphasis on vertical lines, pointed arches, and elaborate stone detailing. The twin western towers, completed in the late Middle Ages, give the cathedral a balanced and imposing appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the cathedral is known for its spacious nave, richly carved pulpit, and impressive stained-glass windows. Many of the windows date from the 16th century and depict scenes from biblical history as well as members of the royal family.
