During the big-wave season, waves at Praia do Norte commonly reach 15\u201320 meters, and in exceptional conditions they can exceed 25 meters. On rare days, waves over 30 meters have been recorded, setting world records. The exact size depends on storm strength, swell direction, wind, and tides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The best and safest place to watch the waves is from the Nazar\u00e9 Lighthouse (Farol da Nazar\u00e9), located on the cliff at S\u00edtio da Nazar\u00e9, directly overlooking Praia do Norte. From the lighthouse area and nearby viewpoints, visitors have a clear elevated view of the waves breaking below and surfers riding them. The lighthouse area is easily accessible on foot and is the main gathering point during major swell events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nazar\u00e9 can be reached by bus from cities such as Lisbon and Leiria. From the town center of Nazar\u00e9, Praia do Norte and the lighthouse can be reached by local bus, taxi, or on foot, though the walk involves steep sections.
