It connect Karak\u00f6y and the residential district of Pera (modern-day Beyo\u011flu). Construction began in 1871, and the line officially opened on January 17, 1875. Originally powered by steam engines, the line was later modernized and electrified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Route and Specifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>\u957f\u5ea6\uff1a<\/strong> 573 m<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Elevation difference:<\/strong> 61 m<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maximum gradient:<\/strong> 15%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Track width:<\/strong> 6.7 m (single tunnel, double track in passing section)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The line connects two stations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Karak\u00f6y Station (lower):<\/strong> located near the Galata Bridge, at the base of the hill.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Beyo\u011flu Station (upper):<\/strong> located at T\u00fcnel Square, near the southern end of Istiklal Avenue and close to Galata Tower.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Travel time between the stations is only 90 seconds. It connects directly with the T1 tram line at Karak\u00f6y and provides convenient access to the M2 metro line from Beyo\u011flu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tickets and Fares<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The funicular can be accessed with a standard Istanbul public transport ticket. In 2020, the single fare was 5 Turkish liras. Using the Istanbulkart (the city\u2019s electronic transport card) reduces the price to 2.7 liras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cultural and Tourist Significance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it serves as practical public transport for residents, the T\u00fcnel is also a popular attraction for tourists due to its historical importance and unique character.
