Pairi Daiza in Brugelette, in the Hainaut province of Wallonia, is one of Europe’s most acclaimed zoos and botanical parks. It grew up around the medieval Cistercian abbey of Cambron, and its name comes from an old Persian term for an enclosed garden, the origin of the word “paradise”. Thousands of animals live in themed worlds that combine landscapes, gardens and architecture from around the globe.
Themed Worlds
One of the best things about Pairi Daiza is its themed worlds. These areas take visitors on a journey across the globe, all within one park. Some of the major themed zones include:
- Edenya: new in 2026, the largest covered tropical garden in the world, with jaguars, manatees, sharks and butterflies under 4 hectares of glass
- The Middle Kingdom: the largest Chinese garden in Europe, with giant pandas, red pandas, golden monkeys and snow leopards
- The Land of Origins: African wildlife with elephants, rhinos, and gorillas
- The Land of the Cold: Arctic and Antarctic animals with bears, penguins, and more
- Islands of the Rising Sun: A Japanese-themed area with red-crowned cranes and traditional gardens
- Cambron-Abbey: The historic heart of the park with gardens, tropical halls, and classic architecture
Opening Times
The 2026 season runs every day from 7 February 2026 to 31 January 2027. Closing times depend on the season, and during Halloween (17 October to 8 November 2026) the park stays open until 22:00.
