Last updated: 4 October 2026

dotonmap.com is a free travel guide with an interactive map of places, sights and events. This page explains the rules for using the site and how we handle personal data. By using dotonmap.com, you agree to these terms and to this privacy policy.

Terms of use

Information without guarantee

We research our content carefully, but opening hours, prices, event dates, weather data and water temperatures can change or be wrong. Please check important details with the official source before you travel. You use the site at your own risk; we are not liable for damage resulting from the use of the information, except where the law does not allow this to be excluded.

Links and partner offers

We link to other websites (for example for tickets, tours, flights or hotels); their operators are responsible for their content.

Accounts

An account is free and optional. Please give true details and keep your password safe. You can delete your account at any time in your account settings. We may block accounts that are misused, for example for spam.

Reviews

Reviews must describe your own experience and must not contain insults, illegal content, advertising or personal data of other people. Every review is checked before it appears, and we may shorten or remove reviews that break these rules. By posting a review, you allow us to publish it on dotonmap.com with your account name and to translate it into other languages.

Copyright

Texts, photos and maps on dotonmap.com are protected by copyright. You may use them for private purposes; any other use needs our permission. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.

Privacy policy

Who is responsible

The operator of dotonmap.com is responsible for the processing of personal data on this website. You can reach us at any time through our contact form.

When you visit the site

  • Hosting and security. The site is hosted by netcup GmbH (Germany) and delivered through Cloudflare (fast delivery and protection against attacks). When you open a page, your IP address, browser type, the page and the time are processed to deliver the site and keep it secure, and are kept only for a short time.
  • Our own statistics. We count page views with our own tool. It sets no cookies and does not store your IP address; visits are counted with an anonymous code that changes every day.
  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd. and Google LLC) to understand how the site is used. It sets cookies and sends usage data, including a shortened IP address, to Google, also in the USA.
  • Partner programmes. For affiliate links and booking widgets, we work with the partners (for example Tiqets or Kiwi.com). They may set cookies to recognise bookings made through our links.
  • Videos, maps and libraries. Videos are loaded from YouTube (Google), map images from OpenStreetMap, and some program libraries from the unpkg.com and jsDelivr networks. Your IP address is sent to these providers when the content loads.
  • Likes. When you press the heart, the like is saved together with technical data (such as your IP address) so that each like is counted only once.

Lists in your browser

If you save places without an account, the list is kept only in your browser and is not stored by us. When you sign in, the places are moved to your account.

Your account

If you create an account, we store your e-mail address, your name, your password (in encrypted form only) and what you save: your lists, visit dates, ratings and private notes, home town, countries of interest, trips and reviews. We use this data only to provide the account functions. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, e-mail address and Google account ID from Google. To protect the sign-up form against bots, we may use Cloudflare Turnstile. Your public traveler page is visible only if you switch it on. In the account settings, you can download your data or delete your account; your data and your reviews are then deleted.

Reviews

After a check by our team, reviews are published on the place page with your account name, rating and date. Your e-mail address is never shown.

Contact form and e-mails

If you write to us, we use your name, e-mail address and message only to answer you. We send you e-mails (for example the link to confirm your address) only when your account needs them.

Cookies

Cookies that the site needs to work (for example to keep you signed in) are always set. Google Analytics and the partner programmes use additional cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site still works.

Legal bases and transfers abroad

We process data to provide the site and your account, on the basis of our legitimate interest in a secure, working and financed website, or with your consent where consent is required. Some providers, such as Google and Cloudflare, also process data in the USA; these transfers are covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or by standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You can ask what data we have about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format and withdraw a consent at any time. Just write to us through the contact form. You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example in your country of residence.

Changes

We may update this page when the site changes. The version published here always applies.
