The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is the biggest electronic-music festival and industry conference in the world — five days each October when the entire Dutch capital becomes one enormous celebration of dance music. Rather than taking place on a single festival site, ADE unfolds across the whole city, with well over a thousand events staged in hundreds of venues, from vast warehouses and concert halls to intimate clubs, cafés and canal-side spaces. By day it is a serious professional conference for the global music industry; by night it turns into a city-wide party featuring thousands of DJs and artists, from superstar names to underground newcomers. The 2026 edition, marking ADE’s 30th anniversary, takes place from 21 to 25 October.
What to See
ADE has two sides. The daytime programme — ADE Pro and its associated conferences — brings together artists, labels, promoters and tech companies for talks, panels, workshops and networking, making it the year’s key meeting point for the electronic-music business. After dark, ADE Festival takes over the city: you build your own experience by choosing among hundreds of parties across genres and venues, from techno and house to trance, hip-hop and experimental sounds, with many events running until dawn. There are also free elements, exhibitions, film screenings and daytime open-air sessions. The scale is unique — it is less a single festival than the whole of Amsterdam turned into a five-day musical playground.
How to Get There and Practical Information
ADE takes place all over Amsterdam, a compact and superbly connected city with its own major international airport (Schiphol) and excellent trains, trams and bikes for getting between venues. In 2026 it runs from 21 to 25 October. Ticketing is à la carte: a conference (ADE Pro) pass covers the daytime industry programme, while the nightlife works on a per-event basis, with individual parties ticketed separately (some sell out months ahead) and a few free events; there is no single wristband for everything. Plan ahead — book the specific parties you want and accommodation early, as the city fills up — pace yourself over the long nights, and get around by public transport or bike rather than a car.
