The Croisette Beaches are the most famous beaches of Cannes, a glamorous town on the French Riviera, in the south of France. They stretch along the Boulevard de la Croisette, a seaside promenade about 2 kilometres long, lined with palm trees, luxury hotels and elegant shops. The beaches have fine golden sand and calm water. Many of them are private beach clubs with sunbeds and restaurants, but there are also several public beaches where everyone can swim for free. Cannes is world-famous for its International Film Festival, held every May.
What to See
Walk along the Croisette promenade, one of the most famous seaside streets in the world. At one end stands the Palais des Festivals, where the film stars climb the red carpet during the festival, and nearby you can see the handprints of famous actors in the pavement. Along the promenade are grand hotels from the early 20th century, such as the Carlton. From the beaches there are views of the bay and the Lérins Islands, which you can visit by boat from the old port. Behind the port, the old town of Le Suquet climbs a small hill with narrow streets and a viewpoint.
How to Get There and Practical Information
Cannes is about 30 minutes by train or car from Nice and its international airport. The beaches are a short walk from Cannes railway station and the town centre. The public beaches are free. Private beach clubs charge for sunbeds and often require a reservation in summer. The beaches are very busy in July and August and during the Film Festival in May. The water is warm enough for swimming from June to October.
