Shops in Krakow have a large selection of European brands at affordable prices. There is not such a variety of boutiques here as in Paris, Rome or Milan, but there are many shops with souvenirs and inexpensive chain brands, including those of Polish origin.
Galeria Krakowska is a large shopping center that opened in 2006 next to Krakow’s main railway station. It takes about 5 minutes to walk from here to the historical city center. The closest attraction nearby is the Barbican fortress. Market Square can be reached on foot in 10-15 minutes. In general, shopping can be combined with excursions.
Galeria Krakowska houses about 270 different shops on three floors, mostly popular chain stores such as C&A, Zara, H&M, Tchibo and Empik. There are also two Carrefour grocery supermarkets here. One, smaller one, is located on the ground floor with an exit towards the train station. And the second, giant Carrefour hypermarket is located on the third floor. There is also a food court and an entertainment area with a cinema.
Carrefour is open here seven days a week. It is open from early morning until 23:00.
Travellers who live outside the EU can reclaim Polish VAT (23%) on purchases of at least 200 zlotys per receipt: look for the Tax Free sign in stores and claim the refund when leaving the EU, for example at Krakow airport.
