Sukholuchye Residence

Sukholuchye Residence is the former hunting estate of ex-President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, previously part of the Dnieper-Teterevskoye state hunting grounds. Once a highly secured and closed area, it became accessible to tourists after 2014. The entrance to the complex was closed again in 2022.

Location

The residence is located in the village of Sukholuchye, in the Vyshgorod district of northern Kyiv region, on the shore of the Kyiv Reservoir. The area is wild and sparsely populated, with forests, swamps, and lakes. It borders regions near Chernobyl. Historically, the estate was used by Soviet Ukrainian leaders for hunting, including V. Shcherbitsky. The hunting grounds cover over 37,000 hectares, hosting elk, deer, wild boars, beavers, foxes, martens, and various bird species.

Visiting Sukholuchye

From Kyiv, the residence is about 80 km away, roughly an hour by car. Visitors take the route via Vyshgorod, past the Mezhyhirya residence, then continue toward Dymer and Glebovka to reach Sukholuchye. Public transport is limited; a regular bus exists but requires an additional hour-long walk through the forest to reach the residence.

• A Kyiv Reservoir embankment, yacht pier, and a guest house with barbecue facilities.
• A café at the fisherman’s house serves shish kebab and French fries, with picnic areas and toilets available.

Wildlife

The estate is home to deer, roe deer, horses, and occasionally wild boars. Most animals roam freely except for the wild boars. Visitors may also encounter a muskrat near the lake.

Sukholuchye offers a combination of natural beauty, historical significance, and outdoor recreation, making it a unique destination near Kyiv.
