Fig Tree Bay (Greek: Παραλία Φιγκ Τρι Μπέι) is a prominent sandy beach located in the center of the Protaras resort on the southeastern coast of Cyprus. Renowned for its clear blue waters, fine golden sand and scenic surroundings, it was voted Europe’s third-best beach by TripAdvisor users in 2011 and holds the Blue Flag. A small rocky islet a short swim offshore shelters the bay from the waves, so the water usually stays calm and is well suited to swimming.
The beach is easily accessible. A municipal parking lot is located nearby, and regular bus lines 101 and 102 connect Fig Tree Bay with Paralimni, Ayia Napa, and other areas. The majority of Protaras hotels are within walking distance along the coastal pedestrian promenade.
Fig Tree Bay has well-developed facilities, including free public toilets, showers, changing cabins, cafés and various water sports. Lifeguards are on duty from April to October, and the beach is cleaned regularly. Sun loungers and umbrellas can be rented; in 2026, prices in Cyprus are capped at €3.50 per sunbed and €3 per umbrella per day.
The beach is particularly popular among families due to its shallow waters, gentle slope, and safe swimming conditions. Snorkelers are also attracted by the rocky areas near the offshore islet, which host a variety of Mediterranean fish. Despite high seasonal attendance, the wide bay allows visitors to spread out comfortably.
The name “Fig Tree Bay” originates from the once-abundant grove of fig trees in the area, some of which remain today. The coastal promenade extending from the beach offers scenic walking routes along the shoreline and connects to other parts of Protaras.
