St. Stephen’s Cathedral (German: Stephansdom) is the main Catholic cathedral of Austria and one of the primary symbols of Vienna. It serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna.

The cathedral is located in the center of Vienna at Stephansplatz, adjacent to the Graben pedestrian area. The Stephansplatz metro station provides convenient access from different parts of the city.

Construction of the cathedral began in the 12th century, with the final form completed in 1511. The southern tower reaches a height of 136 meters. The roof is covered with patterned tiles displaying Austrian coats of arms and ornamental designs. The total length of the cathedral is approximately 198 meters.

The cathedral is open to the public, and general entrance is free. Tickets are required to access the roof, museum exhibitions, or audio guides, with prices starting at 6.5 euros in 2024.

The interior of Stephansdom features Gothic architecture, including stucco moldings, sculptures, and stained glass windows. As an active cathedral, it hosts religious services that visitors may attend. On special occasions, light shows illuminate the interior, and performances or concerts are sometimes held in the square outside the cathedral.

St. Stephen’s Cathedral is considered an essential landmark in Vienna, frequently serving as a starting point for city tours.
