The Karneval der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures) is one of the most vibrant multicultural festivals in Berlin. Held yearly during the long weekend of Pentecost (May–June), the event celebrates the diversity of Berlin’s international communities. In 2026, it is expected to take place from 22 to 25 May, with the main parade on Sunday, 24 May.

The festival is centered in the district of Kreuzberg, particularly around Blücherplatz, where a large street festival takes place. This area transforms into an open-air cultural space filled with food stalls, music stages, and artisan markets representing cultures from around the world.

Parade and Events

The highlight of the event is the Grand Parade, which takes place through the streets of Kreuzberg. Dozens of groups representing different countries and cultures participate with traditional costumes, music, dance, and decorated floats. Samba dancers, African drumming groups, Asian performance troupes, and Latin American ensembles all contribute to a dynamic and colorful procession that attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators.

Beyond the parade, visitors can enjoy live concerts, DJ sets, and cultural performances across multiple stages. The street festival offers a wide variety of international cuisine—from street food to traditional dishes—making it a great place to explore global flavors in one location.

For tourists, it is best to arrive early on parade day to find a good viewing spot. Public transport is recommended, as many streets are closed.
