圣伊丽莎白大教堂，科希策

Saint Elizabeth Cathedral (Dóm svätej Alžbety in Slovak) is the largest church in Slovakia and a prime example of Gothic architecture. It is located in the very center of Košice, within the city’s main pedestrian zone. From the train station, visitors can reach the cathedral by walking straight through the city park and continuing along Mlynská Street for 7–8 minutes. The entrance to the cathedral faces Mlynská Street.

The first church on this site was built in the 11th century. Construction of the current cathedral took over 150 years and was completed in 1508. The building is 60 meters long, and its highest point, the Sigismund Tower, reaches 59 meters, making the cathedral a dominant feature above the surrounding medieval townhouses.

The interior of the cathedral is relatively simple, typical of Gothic churches, though the elaborate high altar and the main altar, preserved from the 15th century, stand out. Two additional attractive buildings adjoin the cathedral: the Chapel of St. Michael and the Urban Tower.

Entrance to the cathedral is free (2024). As an active Catholic church, religious services are regularly held here. Visitors can also climb the North Tower Viewpoint for panoramic views of the city, with a ticket costing 3 euros in 2024.
