Hiking route from Lake Poprad to Shtrebske pleso

Between two famous lakes of the Slovak High Tatras, Popradsky and Shtrebsky pleso, a beautiful hiking route has been laid , known as the Tatra Highway.

This beautiful path, paved with stone, is very popular with tourists, of whom there are quite a few on this route in good weather. The most beautiful views of the mountains, lakes and the Poprad valley open from here.

It is best to follow this trail in the direction from Poprad lake to Strebsky. Having risen from the valley to Popradskoye pleso, follow the signs, of which there are many. The ascent from here in the direction of Shtrebskoye pleso will not be as steep as on the other side of the trail.

This route is not difficult. Along with adults, children also walk along it.

First, it will be necessary to climb the mountain at a slight angle. The ascent will take about 30 minutes. This part of the route is especially beautiful. You will walk along a road paved with cobblestones, gradually rising upwards. On one side there will be rocky mountains. And on the other hand – the downhill slope of the mountain. The view of the mountains and nature from here is amazing. Stop and take photos more often, they turn out just wonderful.

After climbing to the very top of the mountain and walking some distance along the stony road, the route further enters the forest, from where a long and gradual descent along a dirt path begins. Here the road is obstructed by numerous tree roots sticking out right in the middle of the trail, as well as mud (if it had rained before). The Tatra Highway ends at a good asphalted road 300 meters from Shtrebskoye plesa. The train stop is about a 5-7 minute walk from here.

A walk along this route takes about 60 minutes on average. You can get to the beginning of the route on the “Poprad-Tatry” train, getting off at the “Popradské pleso” stop (however, you will have to walk about 40 minutes to Popradské pleso itself, where the trail begins); or at the “Strebske pleso” stop (from here it is closer to the beginning of the trail, about 7-8 minutes).
