The Château de Chenonceau is one of the most elegant and renowned castles in France, located in the Loire Valley near the town of Chenonceaux, in the Indre-et-Loire department. The origins of the Château de Chenonceau date back to the early 16th century, when it was built on the site of an old mill by Thomas Bohier, the chamberlain to King Charles VIII. After his death, the château became the property of the French Crown and was later gifted by King Henry II to his mistress, Diane de Poitiers.

Diane de Poitiers played a major role in shaping the château’s appearance, commissioning the construction of the arched bridge that spans the River Cher and designing its magnificent gardens. After Henry II’s death, his widow, Catherine de’ Medici, forced Diane to give up the château and took residence there herself.

Throughout history, Chenonceau has been home to several remarkable women, including Louise of Lorraine, Louise Dupin, and later Madame Pelouze, who helped preserve the château’s elegance and legacy.
