Luxembourg Palace and Medici Gardens are located just a 7-minute walk from Notre Dame Cathedral, right in the heart of Paris. The main attraction here is the beautiful gardens, which form a green oasis amid the city’s dense urban landscape.

The Luxembourg Palace was built in the first half of the 17th century by order of Queen Marie de Medici, who was originally from Florence. Its design reflects Italian Renaissance architecture with Baroque elements. The palace interiors were once decorated by the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens, who created a cycle of 24 paintings for the queen. Today, the palace houses the French Senate, and access inside is limited, with guided tours available only once a month.

The gardens in front of the palace are delightful. A large pond with a fountain makes for stunning photographs, and in summer, flowers and palm trees are added to the landscape. Ducks swim in the pond, and visitors can feed them or the pigeons. The gardens are also filled with sculptures, fountains, and smaller ponds, making it a pleasant place to stroll or relax.

To the right of the palace, the Medici Fountain adds another charming feature. This long fountain ends with a sculptural composition and is one of the most picturesque spots in the gardens.

Entrance to the Luxembourg Gardens is free, making it an easy and relaxing stop while exploring central Paris.
