Niederdorf is the old district of Zurich, located on the right bank of the Limmat River. It includes the pedestrian shopping streets Niederdorfstrasse and Münstergasse, which together form part of the city’s historical center.

The two streets run parallel to the Limmat River and are connected at several points. Some establishments have dual entrances, one facing the pedestrian area and another toward the riverbank.

Unlike the nearby Bahnhofstrasse, which is primarily high-end, Niederdorf offers a wider range of accommodations, shops, restaurants, and cafes at varying price levels. Local cuisine such as fondue, raclette, and sausages is available alongside international options, including Italian, Spanish, and other Mediterranean fare. Near the beginning of Niederdorfstrasse, close to the Central train station and the funicular stop, there is a Starbucks coffee shop.

The district is also a commercial area, hosting a variety of local and international brands, including Desigual, Lacoste, Timberland, Camper, and Vero Moda. Most stores are closed on Sundays.

Niederdorf is known for its nightlife, with numerous bars and nightclubs that remain open late. The district functions as a center for entertainment in Zurich.

The area can also be used as a pedestrian route from the central train station toward Lake Zurich. Visitors can turn toward the Limmat River at any point to access the riverside promenade.
