The Castle of Óbidos is a well-preserved medieval fortress located in the town of Óbidos, in the Leiria District of central Portugal. Perched on a hilltop, the castle dominates the surrounding landscape and the historic town, which is known for its cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and charming gates. Óbidos is often referred to as one of Portugal’s most picturesque towns.

The origins of the Castle of Óbidos date back to the 12th century, following the Christian reconquest of the region from the Moors. King Afonso I of Portugal granted the town to Queen Urraca, and it later became a royal gift to various queens of Portugal, earning it the nickname “The Queen’s Town.”
