巴塞罗那城堡公园

Citadel Park (Parc de la Ciutadella) is a public park located northeast of the Gothic Quarter in the historic center of Barcelona, Spain. It is approximately a 15-20 minute walk from La Rambla. In addition to its green spaces, the park contains the Barcelona Zoo and several notable architectural structures.

The area now occupied by the park originally contained residential buildings. In the early 18th century, these were demolished to construct a fortress, known as the Citadel. By the late 19th century, the fortress had lost its military significance, and city authorities decided to replace it with a public park. Of the original citadel buildings, the Arsenal building (now the Parliament of Catalonia), the governor’s palace, and the church chapel remain.

The park underwent significant redevelopment for the 1888 Barcelona World Exposition, which was held on the site. The exposition led to the construction of several structures, including the Arc de Triomf, which served as the main entrance, and multiple exhibition pavilions, some of which survive today.

Among the park’s prominent features is the Cascade Fountain, adorned with a golden quadriga. The young architect Antoni Gaudí contributed to the design of this fountain early in his career. Other notable landmarks include the Triumphal Gate, a large central alley extending into the park, a small artificial lake, and the Three Dragons Castle pavilion, which was designed in a historicist style.

The park also serves as a venue for public events, cultural activities, and recreational use. Its open spaces, walking paths, and historic structures make it a popular destination for both residents and tourists.
