Tivoli Gardens is located at Vesterbrogade 3 in central Copenhagen, Denmark, directly across the street from Copenhagen Central Station (København H). This makes it one of the most convenient attractions in the city to reach: the main entrance is a two-minute walk from the station, and the Metro lines M3 and M4 also stop at København H, a short distance away. Nørreport station is about a 10-minute walk for those approaching from the north. Because of its central position, the park is easy to combine with a visit to the City Hall Square and the Strøget shopping street.

History and What Makes Tivoli Famous

Opened in 1843, Tivoli is among the oldest operating amusement parks in the world and a beloved Danish institution. It is said to have inspired both Hans Christian Andersen and, much later, Walt Disney. The park is far more than a collection of rides: it combines around 29 attractions with landscaped flower gardens, ornate pavilions, free concerts, pantomime theatre, and more than 30 restaurants and eateries. After dark the gardens are illuminated with thousands of lights, creating the atmospheric setting for which Tivoli is best known. Seasonal transformations for Halloween and Christmas are particularly popular.

Tickets, Prices, and Opening Times

Tivoli uses date-based pricing, so the cost of admission varies by the day and season. A basic entry ticket generally starts at around 165–175 DKK (roughly €22 or US$26) and gives access to the gardens, concerts, and performances, but not the rides. An unlimited ride pass is sold separately, starting at around US$28, and combination packages bundling entry and rides usually offer the best value. Children’s tickets are cheaper, and booking online in advance is recommended to secure the lowest rate and skip the queue. Entry is also included with the Copenhagen Card. The park is open seasonally, with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays and special periods around Halloween and Christmas.
