Burgas weather on the Black Sea
Burgas has a mild climate shaped by the Black Sea and the salt lakes around the city. Summer is warm and fairly dry: July and August reach 28–29 °C, with nights around 20–21 °C and rain on only four to six days a month. Winters are cool and damp, with 8–11 °C by day and nights close to freezing, while late spring is surprisingly showery, with rain on about ten days in May and June.
Beaches and day trips
From late June to early September the sea is warm enough for swimming at the city beach below the Sea Garden and in the nearby resorts. Mid-June and September, with 25–26 °C and fewer crowds, are ideal for day trips to the old towns of Nesebar and Sozopol, and the bike path to Sarafovo is pleasant on mild spring and autumn days.
Bird lakes and rainy-day plans
In late summer and autumn, huge flocks of storks and pelicans migrate along the Via Pontica route over the lakes around Burgas. On wet days, the shops and cafés of Aleksandrovska Street, Burgas Plaza and Mall Galleria are close at hand, and the fairy-tale Ravadinovo Castle near Sozopol is worth a trip once the rain stops.
