Protaras weather on the east coast of Cyprus
Protaras, on the island’s eastern tip near Cape Greco, has long, hot and almost rainless summers: from June to September afternoons reach 29–32 °C and nights stay warm at 22–25 °C. Winters are short and mild, with 16–18 °C by day and nights that rarely drop below 10 °C, although December and January bring rain on 9–10 days.
Clear water and the beach season
The sea around Fig Tree Bay and Sunrise Beach is famously clear, and the swimming season usually runs from late May to early November. June and September–October, with 27–30 °C, are a good balance of warm water and fewer crowds; in midsummer, go to the beach early and save the afternoon for a boat trip along the sea caves of Cape Greco.
Walks, churches and quiet winter days
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for the coastal trails of the Cape Greco National Park, before the cliffs and coves are scorched by the sun. The hilltop church of Profitis Ilias offers wide views over the coast, and the Agioi Saranta cave church and the village of Paralimni make a calm outing on a cloudy winter day.
