Prague climate: a city of four seasons

Prague has four distinct seasons. Summer days reach 25–26 °C from June to August, with occasional afternoon thunderstorms, while winters are cold and often foggy, at 4–7 °C by day and around freezing at night. Precipitation is moderate and evenly spread: about 10–12 rainy days a month, with September the driest month.

Timing your trip

May and September are the sweet spots: 20–21 °C, green parks and less heat for the climb up to Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral, or for crossing the Charles Bridge early in the morning before the crowds. Summer is warm and busy; December has the Christmas market on the Old Town Square, framed by the Týn Church and the Astronomical Clock.

When it rains or snows

A light waterproof is enough most of the year, but bring warm shoes for December to February, when the cobblestones can be icy. On wet days, St. Vitus Cathedral and the halls of Prague Castle, the Týn Church and the National Museum on Wenceslas Square are good places to wait out a shower.
