Berlin climate and seasons
Berlin lies far enough inland for a more continental feel than western Europe: summers are warm, with 24–26 °C from June to August and occasional heatwaves above 30 °C, while winters are cold and grey at 4–6 °C by day and around freezing at night. The city is fairly dry, with usually 9–12 rainy days a month and a few more in midwinter; summer rain often comes as short thunderstorms.
Choosing your dates
May, June and September are ideal for exploring on foot or by bike: 19–24 °C, long days and around 20–23 dry days a month, with September the driest month of all. Late May or early June brings the colourful Karneval der Kulturen, and in October the Festival of Lights turns the Brandenburg Gate and the TV Tower into giant screens.
Rain or snow
Pack a warm coat from November to March, when the wind can make 0 °C feel much colder. On wet or freezing days, Museum Island alone can fill a day with five world-class museums, the Berlin Cathedral stands right next to it, and in the west the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is a short ride away.
