Bremen through the seasons
Bremen has a damp, temperate climate typical of northern Germany. Summers are mild, at 22–23 °C in July and August with cool nights of 14–15 °C, and heat rarely lasts more than a few days. Winters are long and grey rather than snowy: 5–7 °C by day, 1–3 °C at night, and rain or drizzle on about half of the days from October to January.
Good months for a visit
From May to September the old town is at its most inviting, with 18–23 °C and 18–20 dry days a month. That is the time to linger on the Market Square in front of the Town Hall and the Roland statue, both UNESCO-listed, and to stroll through the narrow lanes of the Schnoor quarter. December has its own appeal when the Christmas market lights up the square.
Escaping the rain
Carry a waterproof layer in every season. When it pours, step into St. Peter’s Cathedral, whose lead cellar holds naturally mummified bodies, or walk down the Böttcherstraße with its museums and porcelain Glockenspiel.
