Dublin climate at a glance

Dublin’s weather is mild, changeable and rarely extreme. The Atlantic keeps temperatures in a narrow band: about 8–9 °C on winter afternoons and 18–19 °C at the height of summer, with frost and snow both uncommon. Rain falls on 12–15 days in most months, but it usually comes as passing showers rather than all-day downpours.

When to visit

May to September is the most comfortable time, with long daylight — about 17 hours around the June solstice — and highs of 15–19 °C. Spring brings St. Patrick’s Day on 17 March, when parades and music fill the city despite the cool 10 °C weather.

What to pack

Layers and a waterproof jacket matter more than the season: a sunny morning can turn grey within an hour. When showers set in, the Book of Kells at Trinity College, the National Gallery of Ireland and the many pubs with live music make a wet afternoon easy to enjoy.
