7 UNESCO sites·best time: Apr – May, Oct·updated 26.09.2026

Rome and its surroundings hold some of the best-known UNESCO heritage in the world, and this page gathers seven sites we have visited. In the historic centre, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Arch of Constantine stand within a short walk of each other, and the Pantheon is close by in the old town. Castel Sant'Angelo rises above the Tiber, and the Baths of Caracalla show the scale of Roman public life. Outside the city, Villa d'Este in Tivoli is famous for its Renaissance fountains. Tickets run from €5 at the Pantheon to €20 at Castel Sant'Angelo, and the Arch of Constantine is free to see. Spring and October are the most pleasant months.
