Larvotto Beach is the main public beach of the Principality of Monaco, in the Larvotto district east of Monte Carlo, close to the French border. Monaco has very little natural coastline, so this artificial beach is the principality’s main place for a swim in the sea.
The beach was completely rebuilt to plans by the architect Renzo Piano and reopened in July 2021. Together with its promenade it now covers about 14,000 m² of sandy seafront, and breakwaters keep the water calm. The seabed slopes gently, and in July and August the sea often reaches 24–26 °C.
The public beach is free to use and is a designated non-smoking beach. Lifeguards are on duty in the summer season, and there are showers, toilets and a Handiplage area with equipment for people with disabilities or reduced mobility. Several private beach clubs along the shore rent out sun loungers and umbrellas and have their own restaurants.
A pedestrian promenade with restaurants, cafés and shops runs behind the beach. The Grimaldi Forum and the Japanese Garden are a short walk away, and city buses link Larvotto with Monte Carlo and Monaco’s railway station.
