Warsaw climate and best seasons
Warsaw lies on the Vistula in the middle of the Polish plain, with cold, grey winters and warm summers. In January highs are just above freezing at about 2 °C, and snow is common; by July and August afternoons reach 25 °C. Rain falls on 10–13 days a month, fairly evenly through the year, and summer showers are often short and heavy.
Best time for a city break
May to September is the most comfortable period, with 19–25 °C and long evenings along the Royal Route. Summer Sundays bring free Chopin piano concerts by the monument in Royal Łazienki Park, and a trip out to Wilanów Palace is most rewarding when its gardens are green.
Cold and wet days
From November to March, pack a warm coat, hat and gloves. When it rains or snows, the Royal Castle on Castle Square, the Palace of Culture and Science with its 30th-floor viewing terrace and the city’s many museums offer plenty to see indoors.
