Segovia weather at 1,000 metres

Segovia lies at about 1,000 metres at the foot of the Guadarrama mountains, so it is noticeably cooler than Madrid. July and August are warm rather than hot, with 29 °C in the afternoon and fresh nights around 16 °C. Winters are cold, with 8–10 °C by day, frost at night and occasional snow that makes the Roman aqueduct especially photogenic. November is the wettest month, with rain or snow on about 14 days.

Summer is the driest season

July and August are the sunniest months, with only about three wet days each, and they are pleasant for walking from the Aqueduct up to the Alcázar. Late spring and September, with 19–24 °C, are also good. In summer, the gardens and fountains of La Granja de San Ildefonso, a royal palace a short drive away, make a cool escape.

Bring a warm layer

Even in summer the evenings can be cool, and in winter the wind from the mountains feels sharp, so pack a warm layer. On wet days, the halls of the Alcázar, the late Gothic Cathedral and the restaurants serving roast suckling pig are the best places to wait out the weather.
