Seville weather: one of Europe’s hottest cities

Seville lies in the Guadalquivir valley and is one of the hottest cities in Europe. July and August average 37 °C in the afternoon, often climbing above 40 °C, and there is practically no rain from June to August. Winter, by contrast, is mild and sunny, with 16–18 °C by day and 7–8 °C at night — warm enough for café terraces even in January.

Spring festivals and the best months

March to May, with 21–28 °C and orange blossom in the air, is the classic season. Holy Week, the Semana Santa, fills the streets with processions, and a few weeks later comes the Feria de Abril, with flamenco dresses, horses and casetas; book accommodation early for both. October and November are another good window, with 20–27 °C.

Living with the summer heat

In July and August, see the Cathedral, the Giralda tower and the Real Alcázar in the morning, rest through the afternoon as locals do, and come back out after sunset, when the streets fill again. Rain is most likely in March, with about nine wet days, and the palace rooms of the Alcázar are a fine place to wait out a shower.
