Rosswald is a small resort village in the Swiss Alps, located in the canton of Valais near the city of Brig. The village offers a peaceful mountain retreat with scenic views of the Rhone River valley and the surrounding peaks of the Valais and Bernese Alps.
Location and Access
Rosswald sits on a sunny mountain terrace at an altitude of 1,819 meters. The village itself is car-free. In winter, the only way up is the gondola from Ried-Brig, a suburb of Brig (about 7 minutes); in summer, a narrow mountain road also leads to a paid car park. Brig itself is accessible by train from major Swiss cities like Zurich and Geneva.
Skiing and Activities
The resort’s ski lifts reach up to about 2,600 meters and serve around 25 km of slopes, divided into two areas:
- Upper slopes: Black runs for experienced skiers
- Lower slopes: Blue and red runs for beginners and intermediates
Additionally, near the village, there is a long gentle slope ideal for learning to ski or sled.
Advantages of Rosswald
- Affordable: Daily adult ski pass costs 49 CHF, much cheaper than larger resorts like Zermatt or Davos.
- Less crowded: Fewer tourists even during peak season.
- Scenic nature: Stunning mountain and valley views.
- Easy access: Quick trip from Brig via cable car.
Rosswald is perfect for those looking for a quiet Alpine getaway with skiing, sledding, and breathtaking natural landscapes.
