Zurich weather through the year
Zurich has a temperate climate with plenty of rain, especially in early summer: May and June bring showers or thunderstorms on 16–17 days. Summer afternoons reach 23–25 °C, warm enough for a swim in the lake or the Limmat, while winters are cold and often grey under a blanket of fog, with highs of 4–7 °C and frosty nights.
Best time for the lake and the old town
Late August and September are often the most reliable months, with 20–25 °C, more dry days and clear views from the Lindenhof and along the lakeshore. Spring starts with Sechseläuten in April, when the Böögg snowman is burned to forecast the summer, and August brings the Street Parade along the lake.
When the fog or rain sets in
On grey winter days, head up the Uetliberg: its summit often rises above the fog into sunshine. Otherwise, the Grossmünster, the Swiss National Museum and the Kunsthaus, as well as the shops along the Bahnhofstrasse and in the Niederdorf, are good places to stay dry.
