Sarafovo is a resort area of Burgas, located just 10 km from the city center, on the opposite side of Lake Atanasovsko. Originally an ordinary fishing village, it grew significantly after the construction of an international airport and a tourism boom, transforming it into a quiet district of Burgas.

Population and atmosphere: Only about 4,000 people live here. There are no large hotels or high-rises, mostly small houses, villas, and mansions. It’s a calm, family-friendly place, ideal for those seeking peace away from the busier city resorts.

One of the advantages of Sarafovo is its proximity to the airport—residential buildings are just a 5–7 minute walk away. The area is also well-connected by bus No. 15, which runs to the center of Burgas every 30 minutes. The bus fare is just 1 lev (around half a euro), and the ride to the city center takes about 15–20 minutes.

Bicycle path: Since 2017, a bike path from Burgas to Sarafovo has been under construction. By 2019, most of it was ready, and the entire 10 km route is expected to allow cycling from the city center to Sarafovo in 20–25 minutes.

Sarafovo lies on a small hill, so reaching the sea requires walking down to the beach, passing a small wasteland. The southern part of the wasteland has been landscaped with new roads and bike paths, while the northern part remains wild.

Beach description: Sarafovo Beach stretches about 4 km, with sandy, slightly dark sand due to iron and minerals. It features breakwaters, sun loungers, umbrellas, a cafe, and lifeguards. Thanks to the bay and breakwaters, waves are minimal, making it ideal for children. The water is usually 1 degree warmer than at nearby resorts like Sunny Beach or Sozopol.

During 2016, the water was clean, but by 2018 it became cloudy and unsuitable for swimming, likely due to winter storms exposing silt. Work on strengthening the coastline is ongoing, so the beach conditions may improve in the coming years.

Accommodation: Sarafovo has small private hotels, guest houses, and several modern apartment complexes, the largest being Atlantis, which has pools, restaurants, and cafes. There are no large-scale resorts with private beaches here.

For shopping and dining, Sarafovo offers only small private stores and around a dozen restaurants and cafes. Recommended options include Neptune (Cherno More Street 5) for fish and Biraria Kedar (Angel Dimitrov 57) for traditional Bulgarian cuisine. Meals typically cost 5–7 euros per person.

Real estate: Due to its proximity to Burgas, real estate in Sarafovo is popular. Unlike large resorts, the area is inhabited year-round. Prices for apartments are reasonable: one-room apartments start at 18–20 thousand euros, and two-room apartments at 25–30 thousand euros.
