Hungarians celebrate these holidays with great enthusiasm, and the festivities are just as impressive as those in Vienna or Rome. So, is it worth visiting Budapest for New Year’s? Absolutely, but there are a few details to consider.

Trip Planning

Accommodation: It’s best to book hotels in advance. Double rooms in central Budapest usually cost €50–70 per night, but during New Year’s Eve, prices can rise to around €100 per night.
Flights: Book early for the best rates. Budapest is the hub for Wizz Air, making low-cost flights easier to find.
Weather: New Year’s in Budapest is cold, usually around 0°C, with daytime highs of +2 to +5°C and nighttime lows slightly below zero. Snow is rare.

New Year’s Fairs

The center of the festivities is in Pest, where the largest Christmas and New Year markets are held. Fireworks can be viewed from the Danube embankment.
